Why Most People Lose Their Goals

Why most People Lose Their Goal

I would like to welcome you to my first post on my blog.

In the next couple of minutes,  I´m going to explain and describe to you in why  most people “forget” about their goals.

I´m convinced that everyone has goals in life! The fact is that kids and teenager have the biggest and strongest goals while growing their way up to an adult. Our fantasy and dreams are basically endless and not many people are trying to prevent or blame us for our dreams. It´s rather the opposite, that other people want to encourage us and have an understanding for our goals. Nobody can stop our thoughts and beliefs!!!

You have to a 100% certainty experienced when you visited high school where you have dreamed of having a wonderful house on the beach, a happy family, unlimited income, your dream car, or maybe even your own butler!!!

So let´s think a few second about this! So when you had these dreams and goals as you were a child, why don´t you have it right now anymore? Things are much different when we get older.

I spend endless time by figuring out why we tend to lose our goals and dreams when we grow up.

What I found is through seminars, reading and also self creating ideas, is that decreasing our beliefs, motivation and finally influencing our decision making process is dependent  by a couple of factors.

1) Negative Influence

2)      Fear

3)      Particular Level Of Comfort

4)      Bad Self Image

5)      The way you set goals

We all were facing people that wanted to prevent us from achieving our goals. They were telling us things like; You can´t do this because you only visited high school. This is not what you should be doing with your life. Man, you have already built a family and you must take care of your kids, so there is absolutely no time to invest.. . What is your back plan if you are busy trying to reach this goal? You know you don`t have the money for it, and there are infinite arguments that are obviously taking into account.

Sadly these negative opinions that other people have about our goals and dreams will impact us enormously. Opinions from very narrow people in our life like your mother, spouse, best friend, can have more impact than  your own opinion. By taking up  these weird statements we can force us to not to even give it a try.

How can we reach something if we won´t give it a try? The answer is pretty obvious.

Most people tend to pick up a few opinions from there goodies before planning an action seriously.

The second contributing part why we forget  about our dreams and not even start giving it a try is because of FEAR. Fear is also something that has incredibly negative impact on our decision making process. Unfortunately again it has the worst impact that could be desired. Fear is something that permanently exists in our mind and its not easy to hang up or to overcome.

So where does fear come from? Fear comes from mostly getting a distance from something what would help you achieve more profitable and satisfying results or searching for excuses to do particular tasks.

The next aspect is a particular level of comfort. Can you remember your ambition the first time you were searching for a job? How ambitioned have you been at seeking a job? What did you feel six months after having a secure job? Were you aiming to create a second source of income?

You will find out that you very likely tended to be satisfied for what you have reached already, and there was no reason to hunt for more right?

It’s because you don´t see a sense of striving for more because you already have accomplished something! Of course this is great, there is nothing to say against this, but in your sub-conscious you know that you could achieve much more if you would be willing to strive for more.

Another point is a bad self image. This is all about the conversation that you have all the time in your mind!!!

You might be thinking oh man you mustn’t do that because you have already an income so it’s not a problem if you let this possibility escape.

My spouse won´t agree to my plan. What will I do if I won´t succeed in my desired time? This is making me to thoughtful, so the only solution is not to do it.

The last point is the way you set goals. Most people aren´t that creative or just don´t know how they should set up for setting goals. They are not willing to commit themselves to an ongoing process that is required to set goals effectively and correctly. They are not willing asking for advice, buying books or self development cd´s, giving up some of their priorities for having the time, money and power to focus on more profitable priorities.

This is something that I found out for myself. Trust me, if you are not willing to give up some things that have manifested in your life, you will never succeed.

The most seriously taking point is that all of these 5 arguments are connected with each other, so just changing one attitude or problem won´t be enough to get where you want to be.

These are just a few points why we prevent ourselves from creating goals and giving it a try.

In the following post I will explain to you why it’s essential to overcome this issues and how you set goals

Hopefully this gave you an insight why people give up on their dreams and goals.

Though the work isn´t done yet, we actually have just started diving into a very extensive topic that is concerning a lot of us and some hasn´t solved yet.

In the next posts I will go on with setting goals, sharing with you my experience and knowledge that was also filtered from very successful entrepreneurs and mentors.

I would love to hear your opinion about this post. What experiences do you have regarding fear, negative influence and comforts? Did you struggle with one of these things while making decisions?

With sharing our individual perspectives and knowledge we will get to a higher level of thinking and acting.

To your most important and powerful goals,

Gerald Gigerl

Greetings Gerald. Congrats on your new page. It looks terrific!

Your first post has lots of good insights as to why people don’t set goals. There are numerous reasons, and you listed several main ones.

Most people who are successful in their lives and businesses make a conscious decision- that it is a priority to set goals no matter what, and in spite of their fears. They first acknowledge their own reasons as to why they haven’t been able to set goals and accomplish them. Then they choose do something to change that.

They may do this on their own, through reading books, joining a group, taking a course, or paying a professional to help them. It may be a combination of those or some other way altogether. Every person is unique so it’s important to pick the way that suits them personally for how they learn best. That way they will be far more interested and actively participate. Doing so increases the odds dramatically for actually accomplishing what they want to achieve.

To be the happiest, and most fulfilled, it is crucial to: know yourself inside and out, love yourself, spend time daily learning, hang around like-minded people, have mentors who are where you want to be, and much more.

It requires taking regular, consistent actions, getting out of your comfort zone, and not listening to the nay-sayers and dream-stealers you encounter. These sadly are often well-meaning friends, family members, relatives, and other people you see regularly.

Doing this requires a lot of effort, but it is well worth it. It’s not easy. It requires an unwavering commitment to yourself, being willing to
push through challenges, learning to say no and yes at the correct times, and such things as learning what your personal values are and staying true to them. You can start with baby steps and build momentum just by staying the course. Consistence and determination are key!

You are definitely on the right track. I say that because you are spending time contemplating this whole subject and reaching out to others. That means you know in your heart what you want and it is now trying to come out. You asked for my opinion, and so here it is. Thanks for asking me to respond.

its so much appreciated to read your comment!!

its all about attitude. the right, correct attitude will lead you to the things that cause you to become more.

yes my goal is to commit muyself to an ongoing process of improvement and opinion exchange. the best and fastest way to get successful is to listen to the right kind of people and learning from eachother!!!!

i wish you a great and relaxing day!

      Hy Beth,

Just read your post, im late sorry.

Agreed. Every very successful person knows and plans there goals carefully and is always aware of his/her goals. We can mostly only make a change or plan something effectively when we take the time to write it down, so that i becomes more present and conscious!

Thanks for posting such a great comment,

      Have a good day,

      Gerald

First of all… Talking about such a topic is smart step… because in my opinion I saw many people get lost and don’t even remember what they use to love…
Not that only, the second thing is that, while reading your topic, I felt you were talking and explaining the way I used to be once before…
I believe and like each word u explained…
-The five points was completely Right and from my small experience, I am going to tell you that each point was right…

-1- People around us used to say No, you can’t do that or this… its sounds ridiculous, because people don’t ever try to see whether we can do it or not…
    As you said:
“How can we reach something if we won’t give it a try?”
-2- Fear of Unknown, Fear of trying, and fear of loosing… But yea, Fear is just a state of Mind… we can control it Only If we want to do so…

-3- I loved the way you explained this point… having the eager to accomplish something and after have it you become satisfy then loose the eager to do anything else..
Like you feel what else should I do!! I got what I want! And I loose that spark I used to felt one I got what I want…

-4- Bad Self Image! :-D story of my life… I used to believe what people use to tell me, and I lost the faith even in my self… But when I started to read about self development… In my experience that’s turned me from a fat introvert Girl:-D to another girl…
We should believe in ourselves and respect our human kind…

-5- the way you set goals.. Define the place you will be in and also define they way you will look like in the future… As much as good our plans as much as we will be a successful person…

Finaly, Thank you for your end…. Because you make me notice again what I missed..
    It was that:
“ The most seriously taking point is that all of these 5 arguments are connected with each other, so just changing one attitude or problem won’t be enough to get where you want to be.”
Some people just focus in one element and forget the rest, and then they get lost!
So, your article helped me way more than I thought, and it’s so simple to understand.

      @ alaa

thank you so much for your feedback!!! its such an important factor that we are open for a change in order to reach a higher level of confidence and success. The best way is to continuesly force your conscious to face your weaknesses on. Just be honest with yourself and admit where you are in your life. this will help you out a lot!!!

    Hey Gerald,

Great first post dude and I absolutely love the topic that you picked. I find it truly amazing how so few people actually do hit the big goals they set in our lives however, I think the biggest issue is that people are setting the wrong type of goals all together. They merely just set goals that they think they can do instead of goals that are outside of their comfort zone. If you only set goals that are in your comfort zone, you’ll lose the motivation to stay with it.

I actually wrote a blog post that deals with this subject and I feel that it will deepen the conversation here:

Let’s keep the conversation going :)

    See you at the top,

  5. How to set goals? 21. Jul, 2010 at 6:41 am #

Ever considered relatively what if you really could achieving your goals invincibly? That very same reflection has occurred to a lot of people. Some have done it. Some got intimidated by the princely unknowns and never got started.

    • Gerald Gigerl 21. Jul, 2010 at 4:05 pm #

      thank you for your comment!

how you handle for your challenges is mostly individual! when you really exactly know what you want you will have a much easier time focusing on the important things.

hope you found some value in my post!

      have a wonderful day!

    Hi Gerald!

Congratulations on your first post, awesome job! I loved your insights, it is so true that without focus and dedication to ones’ dreams they can easily slip back into their comfort zone and forget about their ultimate goals.

We must stay on that slight edge, doing that little bit every day, even when we do not feel like it, because it is the accumulation of every little step that leads to the biggest results! Never let others tell you what you cannot do, and do not think less of yourself if you did not reach what you perceive to be an important milestone when you thought you should have. Just keep going and you will most definitely get there!

Thanks for your thoughtful and inspiring post Gerald, I look forward to more from you!

    Wishing You Brilliant Success,
    Vicki

    Hi Gerald,

seems that I found the first guy from Germany on the Unified Tribe. You could also be from Switzerland ;-)

The subject you chose is amazing. I think because of this mental blocks, most people never ever set true goals because they fear success and/or failure.

    I’m looking to future posts.

    Take care

Great 1st post Gerald on such an important topic. People who don’t set their goals have no target to hit. I like how Les Brown puts it – We should aim for the moon, even if we miss we still land in the stars.
Great job man, I look forward to your future posts.
